[I'll post a sketched map in a bit]

After my armour is in place and my shield strapped to my back, torch awkwardly juggled throughout the process, I glance between the torch and the others cautiously.  The captain did say he wanted to know about our skills as we got underway, but approaching him directly... and Corporal Valenae, I've already bothered once, to help with my armour...

It's fine, you can sort it out later.  Aint like you're gonna have to fight down here unless that ghost loses it, and it don't matter you can't use your axes if it's just the one thing you gotta kill, anyway.

I wander over to Creon and crouch down in front of him.

"Aww, who's a good puppy? Is it you? Is it? It is!"

Noting the young soldier's difficulties, I clasp the golden disk tucked behind my beard, whisper a prayer, "Во имя Kol Korran , да будет свет ." I touch my shield, and a mote of golden light shines brightly from it.

"If it would be easier for you," I say to her, "You may forgo the use of that torch."

"Oh, thank fu- I mean, uh, thank you sir," I amend hastily, putting out the torch and stowing it in my pack for now.  With my newly freed hand, I check my axes are easily accessible as I comment.  "I like being able to throw these too, but when you got a sword already... be easier if I could just toss that at things, but I kinda need it back," I snort.

[Astra's eventual sword is actually a Dwarven Thrower Weapon!

Also I think that power is at-will; I looked it up because a daily that lasted an hour or until you used it again didn't make sense.]

Tired as I am, I still must try to concentrate on safely leading this varied group of soldiers.

[wisdom 10 + 14 = 24]

I try to watch ahead. I hate being underground.

[dungeoneering 3 + 16 = 19]

I wonder why this tunnel was dug to begin with?

[history 5 + 3 = 7]

Glancing back, I see the dwarf produce a light to relieve the young one. I wonder if she's tougher than she appears.

[insight 5 + 19 = 24]

And the ghost... I'd really like to know more about her.

[perception 5 + 12 = 17]

[AWESOME MAP TIME
It's folded in half, more on the left side]

[Huh, I didn't notice that--it's green in the PDF, but the text incorrectly says Daily--I just copy-pasted it from the book. Fixed!]

Your experience suggests that maybe you need to do some team building before encountering adversity.  You clearly have a mix of personalities and backgrounds that may not be naturally inclined toward unit cohesion.  Perhaps some trust falls?  No, you are wise enough to dismiss trust falls as complete nonsense.  [Also, wisdom is an attribute, not a skill, so the checks work a little differently]

The tunnel is solid and well-crafted.  You feel good airflow from all directions, which suggests both proper ventilation and multiple egresses.  It is, however, cold and damp, and there is a hint of a somehow unnerving musty odor.  You think you hear a faint rustling from the northwest.

History was never your strong suit.  (Apparently not math, either :p )

[The unnamed young soldier manages armouring and then re-arming herself with a level of ease and comfort that suggests both decent military training and natural skill; you suspect she may not have been entirely truthful about needing Corporal Valenae's help with her armour!  Her ability to move naturally in the heavy scale is itself some indication of her probable experience, and of course there's the fact that she was the sole soldier chosen for this mission in the first place.

She doesn't appear especially uneasy about your dark surroundings, and indeed seems positively eager to stash her torch away, for whatever reason.]

[You notice what appears to be a small crystal, roughly in the shape of an inverted triangle, on a chain around her neck. You can just make out subtle etchings on her armour and shield; the same triangular shape features prominently.]

[All right, players.  So you're moving down the corridor.  Do you choose to take any detours?  Open any doors?  (The doors indicated on the map are closed.)  Any checks?  Let me know what your PC is doing :)  ]

Astra recognizes the smell as...death.  Not decomposition.  Just death.

[Assuming it's what I suspect, can I get a circumstance bonus on a History check since she grew up in Atur where they use undead guards for some purposes?

Sure.  We'll call it +2, for 15 total.  Yes, it's something along those lines, but more intense.

As we start off, I automatically take up position at the back of the group.  "Smells kinda like skeleton guards here, sir," I murmur to Corporal Valenae and anyone else listening.  "And ghosts don't really smell, so it aint that."

[Astra will not be poking at any closed doors or wandering off!]

[Oh, and can you come up with a default marching order/arrangement?  Obviously you don't have to stay in it, but just so I have a general idea when not otherwise specified.]

The one to right?  You feel a good flow of fresh air coming from it, and it's absent that odor.  With your darkvision you can see it stretches in a very long straight stretch, terminating in a ladder up.

A short whistle to Creon sends him ahead of me a pace and he sniffs the air [Perception 1d20+7: 13+7 = 20].

I pause and cock my head to the side, listening [Perception: 1d20+13: 18+13 = 31].

[What are Antigone and Creon listening for?  The sounds of an undead brother come to exact revenge against the state?  More likely just trying to determine if there are any mindless guards shuffling around and obstructing their path to the exit.]

You detect a much stronger odor, and more of that odd sound - almost like waves lapping at the shore? - coming from the hallway to the left.  That sound is coming from behind the closed door ahead and to the right, too, more faintly.

Interesting that Steklin chose not to escort us through this corridor directly to the exit.

Creon whines softly in response to his investigation.

I don't like this either.

I approach the Captain-Chaplain's left side.

"I recommend we proceed directly to the exit with haste and avoid distraction while preparing for a possible engagement with hostiles. The ... security measures .... down here may not discriminate between friend and foe."

I'm aware of the activity behind me as we walk through the tunnel complex. "Sergeant," I say quietly. "Report. Short and to the point, please."

"Possible hostile activity in our immediate vicinity.  Exact nature unknown.  Possible undead left as a passive defense.  Recommend an immediate recce in force to the exit point. Stealthed. If we are as of yet undetected we should use that as our advantage."

"No further recommendations as the capabilities of the mission team are unknown at this time."
