Technical Stuff / Re: Private Artists Forum Requests
My bad!  I didnt make you a moderator of your user group!

This thread is to discuss and decide on forum aesthetics.

I've thrown a few things together as placeholders as I configure DT, but none of it is cast in stone.  I'll also be working on the look and feel of my blog, and I don't care if the forum looks significantly different from the blog in terms of logo, artwork, favicon, etc.

Technical Stuff / Private Artists Forum Requests
Make your request here.  If you have a special name in mind for your forum, let me know.  If you decide you'd like your forum name changed, you can let me know here, too!

You can request more than one Artists' forum, if you need one.

You can also request additional moderators for your private forums.  This may be useful for collaborative projects.

Once you have an Artists forum, you can start adding members:

Members can request access to your forum and you can choose to give them access or not.  To invite someone to your forum, ask them to request access to your member group.

To request access to an Artist's forum member group:

Hover over the [username} button on the top right corner.

Click "Forum Profile" in the menu that becomes visible

On the next page, hover over "Modify Profile".

Click "Group Membership" in the menu that becomes visible.

Click the group you want to join.  You can fill out a reason for wanting to join, or leave the form blank I think.

To approve a membership request

You'll see a button called "Moderate" beside the "Community" button.  If you have a pending request, there will be a number superimposed over the button.  Click the number and you'll go to a page that shows you all the pending requests.

Click the MemberGroup Requests link.

On the next page, all the pending requests for your forum will be listed.

Click the check box beside a request, and choose the action you want to take from the drop down menu.  You can approve or disapprove, with or without a reason.

Technical Stuff / Re: Tapatalk?
The default theme is supposed to work extremely well on phones and tablets.  I'd use that one.

Also...something critical I left out last night - to give someone permission to your forum - add them to your member group as an additional member group, not as their primary user group.  Otherwise, the only forum they'll be able to access is yours!

Ok, so members can request access to your forum and you can choose to give them access or not.

To request access to the Teshi's Forum user group,

Hover over the [username} button on the top right corner.

Click "Forum Profile" in the menu that becomes visible

On the next page, hover over "Modify Profile".

Click "Group Membership" in the menu that becomes visible.

Click the group you want to join.  You can fill out a reason for wanting to join, or leave the form blank I think.

Ok, you should see a forum called "Teshi's Forum" in the Artists area.  You're the moderator for that forum.
Let me know who you would like to be able to participate in your forum and I'll set them up.

I think there's a way to let you give members access to your forum, but it's going to take some research to figure out!

ohhhhh....
Sorry.

Sure, a placeholder name is fine!

Please post links to smilies we must have...and suggest a :tag: for them.  Please note, I have installed an emoji library so you may run into some :tangerine: that have already been taken.  But really, what's a forum without :eggplant: ?

Technical Stuff / Re: Tapatalk?
ah, k

for this type of forum, laptop > phone
I'm asking around for the best theme for mobile users.  I'll add it (if it's not already added) and let you know what it is.

I'm doing some research on shared gallery apps that I could install here.

I'm not really sure whether it makes more sense to have a shared gallery that multiple users can upload to and organize, or if it would be better to give each person who wants one their own gallery.

This would be a completely separate thing from the forum itself.  It would just be a place to organize and share your images online in a high def format.

This could be a situation where it doesn't make sense to reinvent the wheel, especially if folks already have their favorite places for stashing images online.

Talk about what you'd want, if anything, in a gallery app.  It will help educate me and help me narrow down potential choices.

There's a button on the top right side of the page that has your account name on it.  Click Forum Profile and you'll be on the modify profile page.  At the top of that page is a field called "username" and a field called "name".  You can change "name" anytime you like and it will change how your name is displayed.  You can also change the username.  The forum will force a password reset for that one.

Technical Stuff / Somebody asked...Contributions
I paid for a year's worth of server in advance, and the main purpose of the site (hahaha yeah right) is to host my blog and other shit I decide to add.

Anyway, there's no need atm for funds.  I'll keep an eye on server space and bandwidth usage and such.

One thing we could consider, since this is a creative/artsy site at heart, is an online store for bling like coffee cups, t-shirts or whatever, featuring member art.

Technical Stuff / Re: Themes
You might like the Storm Cloud theme.  It's not as bright as some of the others.

General Discussion / Re: Welcome to Deep Thought!
Sure.  You can change your displayed name any time you like from your control panel.

Technical Stuff / Re: Tapatalk?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

a title

a title (you have to add the click to show/hide thing yourself if you add a title)

Technical Stuff / Themes
I've added a couple of themes.  Current themes are

- ElkArte default
- Silence (dark...really dark)
- Square Era

You can change your theme in your control panel.  In the top right corner of every page is a button with your account name on it.  Hover/click that and choose "Look and Layout" to go to the right page.

General Discussion / Welcome to Deep Thought!
We have lift-off!

I decided that it is time to establish web presence as a writer, hence the site.  For now, I'm hosting the DeepThought forum on my writerly domain.  At some point, I may purchase a separate domain for DeepThought if this thing grows.

I'm not copying over the planning forum threads.  This is a fresh start.

If you're ready to have your own subforum that you control, including deciding who can view it, let me know your desired forum name and I'll set it up and give you mod powers.  If you want to talk about your work with the general community, use the Artists Projects forum.

Welcome and good luck!
