"Good day, ma'am," I say cheerfully to our kind host, "We are departing shortly and we wish to settle accounts. How much do we owe you?"
I stand ready with receipt book, pen, and coinpurse in hand.

"This situation compromises the mission," I announce, "we have no means to test the veracity of the Sending, and no means to verify our contact. I recommend we reconnoiter the Pasarel bridge but do not make contact with this replacement. The target will likely stand out from any local traffic. Once identified we can observe and determine if the target should either be contacted or rendered for interrogation. Either way, I recommend we divert from our original intended course and proceed due north to the mountains."
Kol Korral's gilded beard, we've lost our ranking officer, leaving me in charge--Bah!
"That's a sound plan, Palatinate. I'll settle up with the farmers, as Astra suggested, and we shall depart."
I head off to the farmer's hovel, ledger and receipt book in hand.
78
Sound asleep atop a straw bale, Oleg warbles softly through his beard, dreaming of a barn filled with gold.
79
"I believe it could help. The gods do listen to our prayers."
Instinctively, I fish behind my beard for the golden disc of Kol Korran and clasp it in my hand.
"No doubt the farmers here have offered up their own petitions to Arawai, asking for bountiful crops and healthy offspring for themselves and their animals. The addition of one more voice petitioning in their favor would no doubt be well received, by the farmers themselves and by the gods."

"We aint gonna take your food," I say abruptly, mind on too many lean winters of my own. "Not without paying. You want coin, or for us to work?"
"Coin works," I say quickly, "we don't want to take any work from anyone."
"Besides payment, I could offer to bless their crops and livestock. Perhaps that would reassure them?"

"Let's see. Korunda Gate lies in the general direction we are traveling. As a sizable dwarven city with a large Kundarak enclave, there are bound to be multiple temples to Kol Korran there. That could be our destination, if anybody asks."
82
"As for a cover story, posing as traveling mercenaries creates potential conflict with local constabularies, sentries and patrols."
I consider Olegov for a moment.
"However, a vassal of Kol Korran would travel with a security attachment, especially if he were transporting an important spiritual artifact, " I look toward Mari, "to a remote temple for re-dedication."
I shrug. "It's worked before."
"Hm. Oleg? Could we pull that sort of ruse off easily? I do speak Dwarven, as do others among us, so there's that as some degree of confirmation."
"Hmmm... Yes, it could work. It seems plausible enough. We would just need to work out a few details."

[Moist is a horrible word, no matter the language it's thought it. It's a horribler feeling for poor Pepper.]
It's a tinny word.

"Are you handling our pay, then, sir?" I ask, very politely.
"I have not been contacted by our paymaster yet. I assume they are taking a... cost-effective approach, given the nature of our mission, and will distribute our wages to us at the end. Of course, should our company capture resources from the enemy, be assured I am sworn to the gods to give a fair account and divide the portions between us equally."
86
"Melee combat training," I say, hefting up an unusual-looking warhammer--each face of its two heads having a small circular indentation in its center decorated with a sunken relief.
"Also divine combat medic. And a fair accountant," I say with a grin, tapping the steel abacus strapped to my pack. "Should we need one."
By Kol Korran, I hope we need one!

Four failed sorties before us does not bode well, I consider, approaching the mounts.
Still, that four sorties worth of loot, if we succeed where they failed.
"Lizards. Huh. Never rode one of these before. Pepper, you look like you know the ropes--any advice?"

I'm playing tabletop 5e right now. 18th level wizard in a high level campaign. This edition seems to scale very well at higher levels.

"The Sovereign Host helps those who help themselves," I say. "And the more information we have, the more we can help ourselves."

"Yes, about those 'unknown capabilities'," I mention quietly while we attempt our exit. "I am a servant of the Sovereign Host--unordained, mind you--nevertheless, they have seen fit to bestowing upon me gifts necessary to smite our enemies and heal our allies with divine power. Wait--did anyone else here a swooshing?"
92
[Also I think that power is at-will; I looked it up because a daily that lasted an hour or until you used it again didn't make sense.]
[Huh, I didn't notice that--it's green in the PDF, but the text incorrectly says Daily--I just copy-pasted it from the book. Fixed!]

Noting the young soldier's difficulties, I clasp the golden disk tucked behind my beard, whisper a prayer, "Во имя Kol Korran , да будет свет ." I touch my shield, and a mote of golden light shines brightly from it.
"If it would be easier for you," I say to her, "You may forgo the use of that torch."

A staff of necromancy, eh? Such an artifact would aid the cause of Karrnath considerably, I ponder, marching with our motley company. Of course, should this mission go south after the staff is acquired, such a treasure would fetch an amount of gold truly worthy of Kol Korran, may he be praised.
96
I'd play 5e−my tabletop group has been playing 5e since it came out.

The general looks over the group of soldiers, pointedly ignoring the team's mysterious bonus member. His eyes pause at Captain Olegov. "Anything more?" he asks them."On our way," I say to our company, "I suggest we review our skills together. I am confident of the wisdom behind our selection for this mission, but I know not yet one of you, and none of you yet know me. Better we are aware of each others assets for the sake of the mission and our own survival."
98
Material recovery? That sounds hopeful.
"Yes. You have my commitment, sir."

Hey dio, can I get your untrained skill bonuses for my chart?
Updated my journal.

"A high-risk mission, General? What danger will we face? And to what end?"
By Kol Korran, I silently pray. Let it be gold. Lots and lots of gold.
