Hells.

Also, good that the place is closed up. It will keep the fire from breathing.

The floor welcomes me with a hard indifference and I am jolted back into reality. I blink to focus. I can see a ceiling. I can see thick, milky gray billows of smoke gathering in the eaves. I can smell the rich and acrid pine oils burning. I can hear the pop and sizzle of the upper timbers and thatch as the smoldering fire readies to build into itself into a proper conflagration.
Huh. Makes sense. Why leave prisoners or evidence. We really should have done the same thing from the start here.
I make a mental note that even though I will murder these people, whoever they are, they have earned a level of professional admiration.
The muffled screams for help from an unknown voice distract me from my revelry and force me to focus on the present.
There's also grunting coming from nearby. I turn my head to look, but my view is blocked by table on its side. The grunts are familiar. Latrine duty. I crane my neck to look around but I only have a read on the ceiling from this vantage.
It occurs to me that I shouldn't even be alive to be having this conversation with myself. That's when the pain begins to edge its way into to the periphery of my conscience. And that's when a horrible thought interjects itself. The smoke may be just enough to kill me, but if the fire just smolders, my body may still be intact enough to be ... useful.
No.
Pain. Fear. Panic. Those will have to wait. Now there is only survival and drive to live.
Guide me, Otto.
[Standard Action: Acrobatics to escape at least the manacles: 19+13 = 32 vs whatever godsaweful DC is in store for me.]

Hey, GM. What's your definition of trussed? Bound at the feet and ankles? Also bound at the shoulders or forearms? Hog-tied?
Zoder was pretty irked. Pepper'd look something like this:Is the window that Pepper escaped through still open?
Doors and windows are closed.
So is my DC for escaping even higher?
Also, good that the place is closed up. It will keep the fire from breathing.

[Pepper will expend 3 healing surges to return to 42 HP]

I like Atrelioth. She and Pepper would get along if they were able to get along.
84
[Would acrobatics finally be useful in standing up and hopping around, bound as I am?]

I have had Mouse Guard since it was first released.
And I concur with your analysis on Burning Wheel. I keep running into people who have read the books and love them, but no one who has actually played a game with the system.

I've read it, but I've never played it. Why do you ask?
One of my IRL players just gave me a copy of the books with a pleading request to run a game.
87
Anyone here read or played The Burning Wheel?

The Pretty Useful But Slightly Cursed Silver Totem of Hot Butter Dispenser: never again be without hot, melted butter to slather on your corn and other vegetables. And endless supply of hot, melted and delicious butter flows from the eyes, nose and mouth of this silver dispenser, ready to enhance your dining pleasure. The flow never stops. Ever. There is no way to stop it and if an attempt is made to stop or destroy the artifact a demonic butter golem manifests and immediately attacks.

I stand there for a moment disoriented, my head spinning.
"Sure. Hold on," I stammer, spitting out blood.
One by one I unbuckle my sword and daggers. Then I drop my bolt clips. If that fat-assed chair jockey had just given me my gear this wouldnt be happening, I ruse.
When I reach to unharness my gun the bolt in my side shifts and pain shoots through me like lightning.
Oh fuck this I think as I pass out and topple over.

The bolt punctures right below my right rib and I drop down to one knee, trying to catch my breath as I spit blood. Then a rock hits me in the side of the head. My vision blurs and my ears ring. For a moment I ponder the double-image of the war horses striding the bridge. Such fine animals. So much better than people.
Trying to stand to line up another shot I double over with pain and nausea. I convulse with heaving coughs, expectorating more of my blood on the snow covered grown, staining it. Steam rises up from the pools and blots of blood.
Fuck. Otto. Fuck.
I sling my weapon and stand up, raising my hands over my head in the universal sign of capitulation.
"I surrender," I rasp.

[Minor: change to Aspect of the Cunning Fox Stance]
[Standard Action: Clever Shot+Prone+Spider Bolt*: 19+16+1 = 36 v AC/10+8+1 = 19 damage + prone + slowed: Pepper shoots Zoder in the face.]
[Invisibility ends]
[Free Action: Slide to G1; Stealth: 19+14 = 33]
Target exposed. Draw breath. Hold. Sight. Shoot. Move.
*Spider Bolt+1: +1 to attack and damage rolls. When you hit an enemy using this ammunition, that enemy and each creature adjacent to it is slowed until the end of your next turn. (Sorry Mari).

[Can I see the target in G8 or do I need to make a Perception check?]

[Animal handling is not a thing in 4e, though.]

[Remainder of Pepper's current turn: Standard Action: I convince the dino that an irresistible, delectable morsel of meat is just inside the cabin and that it's insatiably hungry. "Can you smell it (it being the burning remains of Andri)?" "You better get it before anyone else does!" This is expressed in a series of guttural growls, grunts, burps, tweets and hisses. Animal Handling: 16+13 = 29]

[Is riding the clawfoot a good idea? I mean, it's not invisible.]
[The idea is that whoever looked would see a dino running away and nothing more.]

[Revise.]
[Starting at R5 with revision. Question: what kind of roll would you want to incense the dino to charge the front door of the inn. And would that be a standard action? Gotta run. BRB.]

[No worries. The ones around here (used to be around here) are asymmetrical.]
