I nod in agreement without turning to look at Latrine Duty.

"Let's keep moving people.."

I invade the Corporal's personal space to motivate him, "Let's go soldier."

"And cut the chatter."

"Yes Ma'am. Lots of magic in that closet Ma'am," I say tapping my nose, "moving quickly a good idea Ma'am."

I start moving away from all the danger.

Neutral luck:  nothing happens!
Sketchy luck:  Is it just you, or are the hinges on the closet door starting to work loose?  Yes.  They are definitely wiggling and rattling against the stone of the wall.
Fantastic luck:  They seem to be holding for now!  No telling how long that will last, though...

One of the skeleton card players looks over at your group.  Its jaw moves.  After a beat you realize it's laughing.

What's next, my dumplings?

At the ladder up, I turn around and solidly plant myself in the middle of the corridor, weapons at the ready.  "I'll cover us as everyone climbs, sir," I tell the corporal tersely.

I take a good look at her.

Must have hidden talents [Insight: 13 + 5 = 18]

"Very good Soldier," I say standing near the ladder, "Sirs and Ma'ams first if you all don't mind."

You get the impression she has all kinds of hidden talents she'd like to acquaint Valenae with.

"Up then" I say, fervently hoping there's nothing hostile waiting at the top. Brave little soldier here. I'm beginning to want to know more about my comrades, which is the first step towards caring what happens to them. On with it then. I swarm up the ladder as quickly as possible.

A thought crosses my mind. I turn to Mari.

"Er, Ma'am, just how do ghosts climb ladders?"

I take up a position behind Latrine Duty and cover her.  With a quick whistle Creon comes bounding out of the shadows and climbs up the ladder.

Once the others are clear I command her, "After you soldier."

Initiative.  Courage.  Looks handy with those weapons too.  Noted.

"Er, Ma'am, just how do ghosts climb ladders?"

"With difficulty", I reply, glaring at the bloody thing. "Bastard contraptions. What's wrong with stairs?"

I gingerly step onto the lower rung, check that my foot isn't passing straight through it, then pull myself up. Once at the top, I take a quick look around.

[Perception: 8 + 7 = 15]

There is a trap door.  It's closed.  Of course, you have extra options with regard to closed doors....

"Oi, whatsyourname", I call to the half-elf above me. "Get out of the way, and I'll see what's on the other side."

I lean as far to the side as possible at the ladder top. I'd just as soon the ghost didn't go through me on her way to have a little recon.

I climb to the top and push my head just far enough through the trapdoor to see what's out there.

[Same Perception check of 15 again.]

You phase right into a case of assorted stuff.  It seems to be sitting atop the trapdoor.  You get a faceful of ration packs.

"There's stuff on t..."

I pull my head back down under the trapdoor. "There's stuff on top of the trapdoor", I continue. "Some sort of storage case."

[Which way does the trapdoor open?]

I open my pack and remove a black mask, a pair of gloves and long cloak. I quickly put them on while waiting for the trapdoor to open.

The ghost woman's face is mere centimetres from mine. The translucency makes me slightly queasy from this close up. I look down at the others. "Who's the strongest of you? Get up here and see if you can shift the weight."

I climb down rapidly to give whoever accepts the challenge room.

I glance over at the corporal askance.  Why's he dressing up like a highwayman?

I follow the half-elf back down the bastard ladder and drop to the ground. "So, yeah, heavy lifting? Not really my strong suit."
